P.E.

Our high-quality Physical Education curriculum inspires all pupils, including those with additional needs, to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. At JRS we take part in  numerous sports, listed below and regularly compete against local schools in a range of sports. We are lucky to draw on expertise of outside coaches to enhance provision and work closely with a local secondary school, St Bartholomew’s, to help develop leadership amongst their Year 10 and Y11 pupils, many of whom are JRS alumni.

Through our teaching at JRS, we aim to ignite a love of learning about Physical Education that will see our pupils through to secondary school and hopefully beyond!

West Berkshire and North Hampshire Primary Schools Cross Country Championships - update March 2022

JRS took around 70 children to join over 1,000 pupils from 44 schools taking part in the event, at Newbury Showground, which was back after a two-year gap due to Covid. All four races were run on a new course over 1.28 miles.

We were extremely proud of all our entrants and their efforts not only running the course but also in cheering on all competitors during the afternoon.

One of our parents said:

"Just wanted to say thank you to all the staff who made it possible for JRS to go to the cross country event yesterday. It was a brilliant afternoon, the children were fantastic in their running and their encouragement of their team mates."

The icing on the cake for us was our Y5/6 A and B team both coming first and contributing to our overall team placing of 4th! We are incredibly impressed by their achievements especially after the long gap between the last Championship and lack of club training and how they represented JRS.
